According to the Urban Dictionary, a “dad bod” is the kind of body somebody has if they have “the body of a dad.”
Mackenzie Pearson’s essay “Why Girls Love The Dad Bod” that appeared on college-mostly site, The Odyssey, explained further. Here’s a sampling of what the 19-year-old Clemson sophomore wrote:
The dad bod is a nice balance between a beer gut and working out. The dad bod says, “I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time.” It’s not an overweight guy, but it isn’t one with washboard abs, either.
Furthermore, dad bods make for better cuddling and having one indicates that the guy is not prepping special meals for the week on Sundays and counting calories. That translates to “if you want to go to Taco Tuesday or $4 pitcher Wednesday, he’d be totally down.”

We’re not talking William Howard Taft get-stuck-in-a–bathtub condition, more like a-few-love-handles-are-fine shape.
So why not say no to salmon and broccoli and yes to a cheeseburger with fries? Striving for a body like David Beckham is pointless when Kevin James will suffice.
Mackenzie Pearson is a visionary.
