Scoochie, Bonzie, and Seventh Woods…
March Madness is here.
Will this be the first time a No. 1 seed loses to a No. 16?
Well, not sure about that one, but for the second season in a row, I’m betting a friend that a No. 1 seed does not reach the championship game. I didn’t win that bet last year, I’ve got a feeling I’ll do so this time around. They began seeding the tournament in 1979, and since then only three times has that happened.
My favorite player names heading into the tournament: Dayton’s Scoochie Smith, North Carolina’s Seventh Woods, and Notre Dame’s Bonzie Colson.
Speaking of Bonzie, he’s listed at 6-foot-5–which means he’s probably shorter than that, and he plays the low post. Amazing. A fun player to watch. The Irish are a dangerous team.
FYI, no team, other than Louisville in 2013, has won the championship wearing any color other than blue in the last 13 tournaments. The Cardinals wear read.
Did you know that Northwestern isn’t the only team to make the tournament for the first time? Northern Kentucky, North Dakota, Jacksonville State, and UC-Davis all are making their debuts.
Speaking of Northern Kentucky, they are the Norse. Tuck that away for trivia night.
Finally, I’ll switch over to the Spanish broadcast if I begin to hear any of the following: “They need to score the basketball.” What else are they going to score? “Will their bubble burst?” Cliche. “Will Cinderella get a shoe on her foot?” Please.
