TOYS AND GAMES: Don’t Push Those Buttons…

Over the weekend, my hotel stay in Anaheim included scores of Disney-destined families with their amped up, Mickey Mouse-ears-wearing young ones.Elevator_buttons_(2552583462)

While I love the tykes, and I’m all for indulging them, I wasn’t pleased when a lady and her daughter got off the elevator at the third floor. Only they couldn’t simply exit, the little darling had to push all the buttons on the panel prior to her departure — an action her mother thought adorable. Since I had a room on the 12th floor, I felt otherwise.

Not to worry, I got off on the fourth floor and caught the next ship up.

The final elephant performance for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Baily Circus took place on May 1 in Providence. If you’re wondering what all the unemployed elephants will do now that they’ve received their pink slips, they will live in a 200-acre conservation center in Florida.

I love an honest answer from a waitress. Case in point. I thought about ordering the French Dip recently, and when I asked my waitress if that was a good choice, she told me to go with the cheeseburger, even though it was $4 cheaper.

“Let someone else blow your horn and the sound travels twice as fast.” — Joe Maddon in response to negative critiques of the “Try Not to Suck” t-shirts he came up with for his Cubs.

Good one, Joe.

Finally, if you’re looking for something to read, try When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. Many things I’m curious about were addressed in his book, which is beautifully written, poignant, uplifting, and sad all rolled into one. What a talented writer.
