TOYS AND GAMES: Queen Elizabeth II Turns 90
I’m not a fan of the whole British royalty thing.
Why all the ass kissing? I mean, the queen, Charlie, the whole lot–do any of them have a function?
I do know that anybody preparing to compete on Jeopardy! should brush up on the different British kings and queens. The show’s question writers are obsessed by the topic.
Which brings us to Queen Elizabeth II. She celebrates her 90th birthday today. Here are some facts I mined from USA Today:
She has answered over 3.5 million items of correspondence.
This is significant. If she ever loses her job, the ability to answer mail always looks good on a resume.
It rained during her coronation in June of 1953.
Ever notice how it always rains at coronations?
There have been 12 U.S. Presidents since she began her reign, and seven Roman Catholic popes.
None can say they have answered as much mail as she has.
She is the only person in the United Kingdom who doesn’t need a driver’s license or a license plate to drive. Nor does she need a passport to travel internationally.
Picture Queen Elizabeth II going through customs. “The crown, lady. Put it on the belt.”
Gotta go. High tea in a few hours.
