TOYS AND GAMES: Three Enjoyable Reads, The Fighting Koalas, and Wambach
I give you three enjoyable reads I couldn’t put down:
The Necessary Murder of Nonie Blake, which is Terry Shames’ latest in her Samuel Craddock series. Craddock is a terrific character and I recommend reading all of the books in the series. The book will be released in January.
I know a lot of people have already read The Martian by Andy Weir. So I ask those of you who have, how can you not love a book that begins with: “I’m pretty much fucked.”
And my favorite of the three, Love’s Winnings Plays by Inman Majors. This book chronicles the life of a wannabe college football coach at an SEC school. Majors, who is the son of former college coach Johnny Majors, penned an enjoyable read here in addition to introducing a delightful character in Coach Woody.

As a huge fan of Columbia College’s annual “Ludy Bowl” I was delighted to recently be enlightened that the nickname of the all-girl school is “The Fighting Koalas.”
Finally, Abby Wambach played her farewell soccer match for the U.S. national team in New Orleans on Wednesday. I loved the soccer great’s parting words: “Bourbon Street, watch out.”
